Fashion Revolution is the largest fashion activism movement in the world. It grew in response to the tragic collapse of the Rana Plaza factory in Bangladesh in 2013, which killed more than 1,100 people.

Every single one of us who wants to change what is happening in the Fashion Industry can act now and be part of the ‘solution’!
The Fashion Industry thrives on people buying new clothes. We have power as consumers to influence this! Each one of us can do something, no matter how small it may seem, to make a difference and demand better for our environment and people involved in the industry.
We all love clothes! They are an expression of who we are!
We can hold brands accountable for their impact on the environment, the natural resources used in their materials and their waste footprint.
We can ‘Buy Less and Care More’ and try to make what we have last longer.
Please join us for our challenge during Fashion Revolution Week 2021 – from 19th to 26th April.
We invite you to post on Sewing Café Lancaster’s Facebook and Instagram posts and also on your own Instagram, Facebook, Twitter etc – showcase as many examples as you like over the week along the following themes:
- Clothes you already have in your wardrobe, can be things you never wear much now but forgot you had – RE-INVENT them!
Mend them if needed, make this a feature – use Invisible mending!
Embellish with stitching or embroidery!
Put pockets in/on!
Alter the shape or length!
Put brooches on to jazz them up! How long have you had this? What material is it made of? Where did you get it?
- Clothes you either have in your wardrobe or maybe pick up in a charity shop but you don’t like the colour – Dye with Natural Plant Dye. For advice about natural dyeing, go to sewingcafelancaster/naturaldye ???
- Wear an outfit, all or part of it from Charity Shop or Clothes Swop!
- Show something you have made yourself. What is the fabric? Maybe something you have knitted?
- Contact a clothing brand you like and ask questions about who made the clothing, what are the fabrics used etc – to send an email, go to fashionrevolution.org/takeaction where you will find a template for this if you wish. Show us this on your own and Sewing Café’s social media platforms.

Sewing Café Lancaster will be running a workshop at Cornerstones in Lancaster on Saturday 24th April 2021 from 2-5pm focussing on mending and all the themes mentioned above.
